Various events were organized by Tarsus University as part of the April 2nd World Autism Awareness Day. The Department of Speech and Language Therapy at the Faculty of Health Sciences held a seminar titled “Early Intervention and Educational Assessment in Autism: A Scientific Roadmap from Diagnosis to Educational Planning,” addressing topics such as neurodevelopmental differences and diagnostic processes, educational planning, and support mechanisms.

Among the speakers at the seminar was Dr. Özlem Çelik, a faculty member from the department, who discussed the diagnostic processes of autism spectrum disorder, particularly in infancy and early childhood. Çelik emphasized the limitations in social interaction and communication, which are among the fundamental characteristics of autism, and highlighted the critical role of parents of children diagnosed with autism in early detection, support, and active participation in the educational process.

Another speaker at the seminar, Special Education Specialist Özgür Konuk, emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and intervention in autism, explaining the stages of diagnostic tests and educational assessment processes. Konuk, sharing her field experiences gained in various NGOs, touched upon the role of genetic and environmental factors in the emergence of neurodevelopmental differences. She also stated that early diagnosis and accurate assessment processes are vital for individuals to receive effective education.

Meanwhile, the Tarsus University Disabled Students Advisory and Coordination Unit organized a musical performance to mark the significance of the day. Akif Sarı and Kadir Akçiçek performed various musical pieces.
