An online conference entitled ‘Palestine's Past, Present and Future’ was held at Tarsus University, addressing the historical background, current situation and future of the Palestinian issue. The event, featuring Dr Tuğba Aydın Halisoğlu, lecturer in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, as a speaker, addressed the historical origins of the Palestinian issue, its status in terms of international law, and the search for solutions from an academic perspective.

Delivering the opening speech, Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Özen emphasised the importance of the Palestinian issue for humanity, stating: "Defending Palestine means defending humanity, peace and justice. Our duty is to raise awareness about Gaza and to work towards building a world that can say “stop” to such injustices in the future. What needs to be done is to conduct serious diplomatic efforts, activate international mechanisms, accelerate humanitarian aid, and establish coordination with civil society organisations and international actors. Through these means, we must ensure accountability, the rule of law, and the protection of victims."

At the conference, Dr Tuğba Aydın Halisoğlu, Assistant Professor, comprehensively addressed the historical, legal and political dimensions of the Palestinian issue, touching upon the developments that followed the withdrawal of the Ottoman Empire from the region. Within the framework of the new conjuncture that emerged after historical developments, she assessed the unstable structure of the Middle East, the role of the United Nations in the region, and the process of reshaping the international political map. While noting that the two-state solution in the Middle East has been recognised by 150 countries, she emphasised the great importance of Palestine's diplomatic recognition in this process. Referring to Israel's genocidal attacks that have been ongoing in the region for months, Dr Tuğba Aydın Halisoğlu concluded her remarks by drawing attention to the importance of historical context for a proper understanding of the Palestinian issue.
