Çukurova Sanayi’s Textile Heritage Is Being Carried Into the Future Through Tarsus University

15 Mayıs 2026 Cuma - Görüntülenme: 73

Textile patterns designed and produced in past years at Çukurova Sanayi İşletmeleri Türk A.Ş.—one of the Çukurova region’s significant industrial and cultural heritage sites—are being preserved for future generations through a digital archiving project led by Tarsus University with support from TÜBİTAK.

Under the academic supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esra Enes and Lecturer Dr. Semay Tanyer Erdoğan from the Fashion Design Program at the Tarsus University Vocational School, the project titled “Çukurova Textile Patterns from the Past to the Present: Archiving Cultural Heritage," was supported under the TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Student Research Projects Support Program. The pattern archives obtained as part of the project, which aims to preserve the production culture, design memory, and industrial heritage of the Çukurova region’s textile history, were showcased to visitors in an exhibition featuring contemporary collage works. The opening of the exhibition, which attracted a large turnout, was held at the site—which no longer operates as a factory—with the participation of Tarsus University faculty and students, former employees who had worked at the factory for many years, and invited guests.

As part of the project, textile patterns from Çukurova Sanayi’s earlier periods were compiled and digitized. The original patterns, made available through archival support provided by the company’s former employees Lütfi Hasoğlu and Cumali Balcı, have been made accessible to researchers and visitors via the newly created “Çukurova Patterns Digital Archive.”
